Overview

A baby product washer, sterilizer and dryer to redefine the way parents prepare and clean baby products.

This is a research oriented project to design a concept that is technically complex.

Objective

Our goal was to redesign an existing product with additional functions to create a comprehensive solution for baby care that not only simplifies the baby care routine but also extends the product's lifespan by around 2-3 years. Additionally, it aims to optimize water usage compared to traditional methods, promoting water conservation.

Research

As a young parent, ensuring the health and safety of your baby is of utmost priority. From bottles to teethers and sippers, keeping their products clean is crucial. Studies reveal that many parents don't boil baby bottles for the recommended time by WHO, leading to harmful bacterial deposits inside the bottles. To address this issue, we delved deep into this domain, aiming to understand and tackle various problem areas.

Ideation

Combining three processes into one was a challenging task indeed. We began by using the 'Crazy 8' ideation technique, studied volumes of the technical components, and then progressed to doodles and loose sketches to determine the placement of distinct elements to integrate it within a single product. Additionally the form factor was well thought out to be friendly, appealing, and clearly identifiable as a baby-focused cleaning appliance.

Learnings
  • Focus on enhancing the product's value to the end user rather than complicating the existing product for design's sake.

  • Study analogous products to gain a deeper understanding of their mechanisms.

  • Ensure that the form is not ignored even when a product is technically complex.

My Role

  • Lead the team to conduct primary research, technical research, data analysis, FAST, concept generation, 3D modelling, rendering, material procurement, prototyping

Prototyping

To visualize the product's size, proportions, and real-world appearance, we created an external physical model using plastic and vacuum forming. This process included mold creation, heating polycarbonate sheets, shaping them over the mold, cutting as needed, and assembling and painting to achieve the final look.
