Details
Module : Nature and Form
Duration : 2 weeks
Type : Individual Project

Inspiration
Indian Paradise Flycatcher : A medium-sized, passerine(perching) bird native to Asia, primarily India. It’s a migratory, graceful looking species wherein the long ribbon-like tail is a distinctive characteristic found in adult males.

Ideation
Phase I : Lines were gradually developed to bring out the essence of the form. The key features of the form were grasped and used in phase II.
Phase II : The form for a center table was developed through various views, keeping in mind one key aspect of the bird—heavy form on one end that gradually transitions into a graceful one on the other.
Learnings
-
Start with the inspiration and then derive a product through form abstraction instead of selecting the product since the beginning
-
Intensive sketching is necessary to gather enough attributes about the inspiration to arrive at the right form eventually
-
Form follows essence of the inspiration
My Role
-
The entire process right from defining the brief to form derivation and visualisations.

Visualisation
The final form is intended to bring out the poise and grace that the bird has; it is apt as a center table because of its visual and physical balance, creating two levels on the top and a hollow space within for its functional purposes.
